Vitoria-Gasteiz, Álava, 2021

“Variations on a Theme” is a mural in homage to all artisans and especially to Peli Romarategi, an artisan who turned 100 in 2021.

The mural reproduces a fragment of the sketch that José Mari Muñoz made for the altar of the Urkiola sanctuary, Abadiño (Vizcaya). The 160 m2 mosaic mural was built by Peli Romarategi in 1996. One of his many mosaic works that can be seen both in Spain and in Latin America.

This mural is displayed at the top of the medieval town of Peli's hometown (Vitoria-Gasteiz). It was painted on polytab fabric in our workshop and installed on site. It was inaugurated in the presence of Peli, family, friends and the mayor of the city.
