Studio paintings and large-scale public murals made in the Basque Country, Spain and the United States since 1993.
Werckmeister's studio practice works with familiar images — figures, animals, domestic objects — examining how culture shapes what we think we already understand. Her current series centres on the one-eyed owl.
Her public practice spans 30 years of large-scale murals made with communities, city governments, schools, and institutions across Spain and the US. In 2007 she co-founded the Mural Itinerary of Vitoria-Gasteiz — collaborative murals that transformed the medieval city center.
